As we face adjustments and opportunities as a result of the COVID-19 national emergency, everyone is seeking more data and analyzing that data to try and predict what is going to happen next. These predictions also will help to inform the U.S. Navy what to do next with its shore infrastructure. As the naval shore facilities, base operating support, and expeditionary engineering systems expert, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) delivers lifecycle technical and acquisition solutions aligned to Fleet and Marine Corps priorities. In NAVFAC Strategic Design 2.0, a deliberate focus area is the use of advanced analytics, including a knowledge management framework, centralized data structures, and governance to help improve organizational agility, speed, and decision-making. This structure inspires high-velocity learning and encourages greater employee involvement and participation in analytical efforts. After significant learning of the private sector analytics best practices, NAVFAC implemented the standup of a dedicated Command Analytics Office and supporting capability focused hubs to advance our goal of enhancing the Navy's shore readiness with analytics. The office will focus on identifying and automating data collection, storage, retrieval, and analysis to identify trends, troubleshoot problem areas, and predict outcomes, with authoritative data that is repeatable and defendable.
