The object of the Society of American Military Engmeers and of its journal, The Military Engineer, is to promote harmony amongst and between military engineers in and out of the regular service, in the interests of the national defense. And such, we believe, has been the real motive of every article and argument that has appeared in our columns. Certainly we should suppress or advise the revision of any writings calculated to tear down rather than to build up the harmony and esprit de corps of our Society as a whole.
