Combating Water Shortages

Due to frequent water shortages on Okinawa, the government of Japan should mandate the use of water-efficient plumbing fixtures in all new construction. In addition, Japan should consider banning the sale of plumbing fixtures that are not water efficient. Toto, a leading Japanese plumbing company, manufactures high quality water efficient plumbing fixtures in the U.S. Also, the government of Japan should consider offering financial incentives to encourage water users to replace existing fixtures with water efficient fixtures. MCB Camp Butler's implementation of the recommendations contained in the water conservation plans, including the plan's public education and information program, sets an example to the people of Okinawa that water conservation will alleviate-indeed is the solution to-water shortages there.
