Future First Planning

The new Future First Planning (F2P) concept of the Air Force is a comprehensive framework that effectively synchronizes environmental planning, real estate and construction. Until recently, the typical Air Force approach to environmentally contaminated sites, such as a landfill, was to cap it properly, limit or abandon its use, and then look for other real estate where a new landfill could be built. However, F2P is now changing that. The major objectives of F2P are to improve the quality of Air Force facilities and to close down environmental restoration sites consistent with their future use. The F2P concept accomplishes that by linking environmental restoration programs, where applicable, to all future installation engineering efforts. Prior Air Force Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) actions pushed us into consolidating mission areas. Future BRAC actions will most likely result in even more measures that maximize the efficient use of real estate. This will cause us to look at environmental restoration sites that were discounted earlier as prime real estate requiring remediation, redevelopment and reuse.
