摘要

Near the Arctic Circle, nestled between two mountains and surrounded by miles of icebergs and glaciers, lies Thule Air Base (AB), Greenland—the northernmost U.S. military installation. The location and climate present unique building challenges for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). USACE personnel volunteer to stay on the base for months at a time to supervise the new construction and renovation projects that keep the installation's mission fully operational. Among the USACE projects are an aircraft runway, taxi-ways, living quarters, a fire fighting training facility and a new medical center.
