After completing a major water reclamation project, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar, Calif., is saving 97-million-gal of water, translating to a cost savings of $860,000 annually. This achievement earned the installation the honor of a Presidential Leadership Award for federal energy and water management, awarded in October 2008 at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in Washington, D.C. The Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) Presidential Awards were established under Executive Order 13123, Greening the Government Through Efficient Energy Management, requiring federal agencies to improve energy efficiency and management. Under this mandate, the awards are presented to agency energy management teams for large-scale, comprehensive organizational efforts showing excellence in the use of the energy-efficiency and management tools.
