Faced with unprecedented destruction caused by hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma, small businesses from coast to coast are joining forces with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the commitment to rebuild ravaged areas. The result has truly been a partnership with small businesses from every corner of the country supporting the federal-led response. For example, more than 45 percent of all contracting dollars for hurricane response and recovery have been awarded to small businesses, according to Hector Barreto, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator.
