The CAA has published guidance for operators of light unmanned aircraft systems (up to 150kg), promoting the European Unmanned Systems Centre (EUROUSC) as being authorised by the CAA to assess the airworthiness of such systems as well as being able to issue the basic national UAS certificate as the nationally approved CAA UAS specific pilot/crew qualification for small UAS. Passive sense and avoid systems were now available and were likely to initially be used by the military. GAPAN had identified the risk levels connected with UAV operations and developed a draft study paper.
