Captain Gerry Fretz

A name dear to the hearts of many people in the aviation and BA Scottish sailing communities. Sadly, at the age of 83, Gerry passed away having suffered a stroke. Gerry had enjoyed a rich and full life and had gained a wealth of experience in the aviation world. As a young man, he joined the Royal Artillery as an Air Observation Post Pilot (the predecessor to the Army Air Corps) flying Austers in Egypt during the canal zone crisis. He then moved to civil flying, and worked with the Britten/Norman partnership that built the Islander aircraft on the Isle of Wight. Moving on from there to Cameroon, he took up crop spraying from where he moved to work in Panama.
