The fallout from the War in Iraq may be a lot more acute than first realised. The collective sigh of relief that no illegal weapons were used (not by the Iraqis anyway) and that no one important had died extinguished many prewar doubts. However, the true cost of the war will have implications on funding back in 'blighty'. For a start, the news from the Department for Transport (DfT) is not particularly positive. The promises made by the Government in the Ten Year Plan are likely to be watered down and capital will probably be withdrawn from areas such as road and bridge maintenance and street lighting. The lighting industry must feel less listened to than Hans Blix at times.
