Bridge Works

In the first part of this special survey, Carl Gardner looks at a number of lighting schemes for bridges, ranging from highly spectacular treatments to discrete, low-key applications.rnSince the end of October, 2007, a wave of variegated blue light has been visible under the arches of the Arceaux aqueduct in Montpellier, France. The intense blue lighting treatment is the first phase of a number of lighting design projects for the city, conceived by the French lighting designer/ artist Yann Kersale. The bridge scheme comprises 650 metres linear LED units, controlled by a computer that modulates the lamps' voltage to suggest subtle movement.
