June's 'Joined up Lighting' in London (sponsored on this occasion by iGuzzini UK) took up the rather vexed issue of lighting's effects on wildlifern- and what can be done to mitigate them. Martin Hicks of the Hertfordshire Biological Records Centre opened the proceedings with a fact-filled broadside on exterior lighting and its damaging effects on many kinds of wildlife, including bats, frogs, trout and even plantsrn- and in his conclusions he called on planners to consider ecological processes in their decisions on new developments.
