摘要

The world's demand for oil has been growing by 2% per year since 1985. From 1996 to 2000, world oil production capacity is projected to increase by 9.8 million b/d (from 75.3 million b/d to 85.1 million b/d) and rise to 95.9 million b/d by 2010. In the North Sea and the United States, oil production will decline from 2000 to 2010; in the same period, the CIS, the Middle East, and North Africa will have major increases in production due to new discoveries that will bring their combined output to over 50% of the world's total. Particularly promising are the frontier areas of the Caspian Sea, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia (Table 1).
