Cost-effective imaging of the near-wellbore can be achieved with multiazimuth offset vertical seismic profiles (VSPs) loaded onto a seismic interpretation workstation. The west Texas case study is an example of this approach. The west Texas multi-azimuth offset VSP survey was acquired after a stepout well unexpectedly Came in low and dry and a decision whether to sidetrack had to be taken within the shortest possible time frame. A first offset VSP imaged the well to be on the low side of a reverse fault.
