Regional multi-2-D prestack depth migration: A subsalt case history from the deepwater Gulf of Mexico

The deepwater Gulf of Mexico has become more financially attractive in recent years due to advances in several core technologies. Foremost is the use of prestack depth migration for illuminating subsalt geology. The high risk and cost associated with drilling deepwater subsalt features have driven the need for increased resolution of structure and reservoir. Prestack depth migration has increasingly met that need. High-quality depth imaging has in many cases breathed life into dead prospects and killed those whose time structure unexpectedly disappeared.
