Dublin Bus officially opened its first new bus garage in over 30 years, at a location in Harristown, close to Dublin airport, last month, spurred by growth in the fleet, up from 850 buses in the mid 1990s to over 1,000 at the end of 2000, and projected future customer growth into the new millennium. "Dublin Bus wanted to place it in the most advantageous part of Dublin, taking account of the growing population going forward," explains Donal Keating, who was project manager on the client side. "The project was planned at the beginning of 2000. The Bacon report had come out at that time, so we were aware of the number of houses that were going to be built, and we were also aware that over 50 per cent of them were going to be in the Fingal area."
