Catriona boyle spoke to the three local authorities that have received IEI CPD accreditation about the benefits for their organisations. Clare County Council, Dublin City Council and Meath County Council have each received IEI CPD accreditation. For each of the three, the motivation for gaining accreditation was slightly different. In Clare, the impetus came from the engineering staff. "They felt that there should be a formal CPD programme in place for them," Mairead O'Donovan of Clare County Council says. In Dublin, the City Manager was very impressed with the work and strategic focus of the IEI, particularly the IEI CPD initiative and the fact that it was supported by central Government, according to Tom Leahy, Deputy City Engineer with Dublin City Council. Meanwhile, for Meath County Council, Olive Falsey says that CPD accreditation was initiated to make training more focussed.
