The hexagon is nature's most sustainable engineering form: the perfect building block for strength, sustainability and efficient use of space. Inspired by one of nature's engineering marvels, the honeycomb, Ingenuity Island is a map of Ireland built of four hexagonal blocks. Beekeeping has been a tradition in the midlands for millennia, with honey inspiring the names of towns and townlands. The beehive cell represents a unique Irish contribution to structural engineering and its durability and cohesion is a testament to the inherent strength of the form. The use of colours in Ingenuity Island symbolically highlights Ireland's four provinces, distinctive but inextricably linked, and provides a colour key to the main elements of the conference. Ingenuity Island is about sustainability, character and focus - symbolising an island moving forward on the strength of its resources and inherent capabilities.
