Growing global career opportunities for Irish engineers

The meetings of the main engineering professional bodies from all over the world, held in Washington in June 2008 were a watershed in the evolution of the six international agreements which began with the Washington Accord agreement back in 1989. The agreements are: 1. Washington Accord. 2. Sydney Accord. 3. Dublin Accord. 4. EMF (Engineers Mobility Forum) International Register of Professional Engineers. 5. ETMF (Engineering Technologists Mobility Forum) International Register of Professional Engineering Technologists. 6. Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Engineer. The first three accords deal with the mutual acceptance of accredited engineering, engineering technology and engineering technician programmes in the signatory jurisdictions while the last three deal with the establishment of International Registers for licensed (Chartered) Engineers and technologists. Engineers Ireland has signed the first five agreements.
