Pre-engineered off-site quality construction, based on a truly sustainable, renewable and versatile material is now a well-established sector of the Irish construction industry. This overview examines how timber frame solutions are addressing the demands of twenty first century design and construction. Timber frame has responded to many of the key drivers in modern domestic construction such as build speed; build quality; environmental superiority and sustainability, design versatility, project costs; handling and waste levels and skills availability. There are numerous forms of timber frame construction exhibited throughout the world including post and beam, open and closed panel, platform, closed panel platform and so forth. Not all forms are suitable to every nation due to climate, national regulatory variations and in many cases due to the level of practice and expertise.
