The West region's combination of a vibrant academic presence and a strong cohort of multi-national companies and progressive local entrepreneurs, as well as a thriving engineering community with a wealth of multi-disciplinary experience, positions it to play a vital role in implementing the National Development Plan and in contributing to the transformation of Ireland into a knowledge island. The delivery of world-class road and transport networks, comprehensive water services, a secure energy supply and sustainable development policies will be crucial to ensuring that the West region realises its full potential. In this article we provide a brief overview of the work being done to deliver on these fundamentals.
