With the agency facing strong political pressure to toughen its oversight of energy futures and derivative markets, President-elect Barack Obama said Thursday he would nominate Gary Gensler, a former top Treasury Department official and Goldman Sachs executive, to be chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.rnGensler brings substantial Washington and private sector experience to the CFTC, which was on the hot seat earlier this year when oil and natural gas prices went through the roof amid a huge upsurge in trading on new derivative markets that were by law largely exempt from federal oversight.
