Hydro-Quebec Eyes New England With New Brunswick Buy

In a merger of two provincially owned utilities, the premiers of Quebec and New Brunswick Friday announced an agreement under which Hydro-Quebec will buy most of the assets of NB Power for $4.4 billion, with New Brunswick residents getting some $4.6 billion in rate cuts and Hydro-Quebec getting improved access to the New England market for lucrative exports of its vast hydropower resources.
