Interior Eyeing Areas In Six Western States For Expedited Solar Development

Seeking to speed development of utility-scale solar power projects, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced Monday his agency will evaluate 670,000 acres of Bureau of Land Management land in six western states to see if they are suitable for solar projects of more than 10 megawatts. Salazar, who made the announcement in Nevada with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), said federal agencies will work with state and local officials to determine which of the 24 "solar energy study areas" should be designated as prime zones for big solar farms.
