FirstEnergy Corp. told the Nuclear Regulatory Commission last week that corrosion had eaten a small hole in a thin sheet of steel that lines the inside of the containment building at the Beaver Valley Unit 1 nuclear reactor near Ship-pingport, Pa.rnIn an "event report" submitted to NRC April 23, Akron, Ohio-based FirstEnergy said inspections made during a refueling outage turned up "blistered paint and a protruding rust product" on the inside of a steel sheet that lines the inside of the reactor containment structure.
