With as many as 1 million plug-in electric vehicles expected to be on the nation's roads within 10 years, a new study released Tuesday by the ISO/RTO Council warns that if all the vehicles charged simultaneously it would add electric load of more than 3,700 megawatts, an outcome the council said would necessitate new policies aimed at spreading charging demand across time to obviate the need for new generation.
