Amid renewed demands by the oil industry and its congressional allies that the Obama administration open more coastal areas to drilling, the Interior Department Friday called for industry and public comment on its 2017-2022 plan for offshore oil and natural gas leasing, saying it would consider drilling in areas beyond the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska—the only two regions where the administration has held lease sales.
