EU commits carmakers to cut CO_2

A draft EU regulation setting mandatory targets on carbon dioxide emissions from new cars has met with criticism from carmakers and green groups alike. The European Commission has proposed regulations setting an EU fleet-wide average target of 130 grams per kilometre on carbon dioxide emissions from new cars by 2012. The target is a 19% reduction on current emissions.
