RED TAPE CHALLENGE TO TACKLE ENERGY RULES

The government's Red Tape Challenge will cover energy from 25 November.1 The review of regulatory burdens will seek comments on the topic for five weeks. Nuclear power and radiation, the coal industry, electricity distribution/the carbon emissions reduction scheme, and oil and gas platform pollution are among the 334 regulations to be discussed.2 The exercise will not cover the Climate Change Act 2008 carbon budgets or emissions trading regulations, as these were looked at in September (ENDS Report 440, pp 45-46). Nor will it cover the role of energy regulator Ofgem or the controversial Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme.
