Certfication scheme for NO-X emissions abatement considered

The government is examining how the performance of nitrogen oxides (NO-X) abatement equipment retrofitted to lorries and buses could be certified.Such a scheme could form part of a national framework for low-emission zones (LEZs) proposed by the environment department (DEFRA)in June (ENDS Report 437,p 47).A report presented to DEFRA and the Department for Transport (DfT) by consultancy AMEC discusses how the scheme might work and covers technology, administration and enforcement.The report also considers practical issues, such as likely demand and installation capacity. It is based on a literature review, a stakeholder consultation and a workshop held in May.
