Solar FIT cut despite 'grid parity' promise

Feed-in tariffs paid to medium and large solar projects are to be slashed from l August, the energy and climate department (DECC) confirmed in June. Government proposed curbing tariffs for projects above SO kilowatts peak capacity in March, to reduce impacts on electricity bills (ENDS Report 434, p 8). Tariffs for projects between 25okW and five megawatts peak capacity are to drop the most, falling 72% from 30.7p per kilowatt hour of electricity produced to just 8.5p. DECC has also confirmed a slight increase in the rates for anaerobic digestion plants to encourage take-up on farms. Plants up to 2SokW capacity will now get i4p/kWh, while those between 250 and 500kW will get I3p. Both previously got n.Sp/kWh.
