Progress made on marine plans

Whitehall and the three devolved administrations have unveiled their joint approach to managing marine activities in a sustainable way. A raft of legislation and guidance on the marine licensing regime has also been published. The UK marine policy statement (MPS), published on 18 March, provides a consistent framework for preparing marine plans under the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009 and the Marine (Scotland) Act 2010. It will also apply under the Northern Ireland Marine Bill, which is expected to enter force next year.
