Carbon Trust gives million pound boost to hydrogen car technology

The Carbon Trust has granted £im to two projects to accelerate the development of hydrogen fuel cell technology in cars. Sheffield-based ITM Power and Run-corn-based ACAL Energy will "share £500,000 to work together on a new hybrid high-power, low-cost fuel cell design. The other £500,000 will go to Imperial College London and University College London to jointly develop a fuel cell using high-volume manufacturing techniques. The funding comes from the Carbon Trust's Polymer Fuel Cells Challenge, which was launched in 2009 to help develop lower-cost fuel cell systems for road transport and other applications, such as combined heat and power systems.
