Government defends carbon budget review

The government has defended its decision to review the UK's binding fourth carbon budget which runs from 2023-27 (ENDS Report 441, pp 56-57) in 2014, despite concerns it could undermine confidence in low-carbon investment.It told MPs who have criticised its stance that the fourth budget, which aims for a 50% cut in emissions by 2025 relative to 1990, would put the UK at an economic disadvantage if equivalent action failed to materialise at EU level.
