The rise and rise of UK waste exports

Waste exported for fuel reached record levels in February, rising above 300,000 tonnes in a single month. Environment Agency (EA) records show 311,464t of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) left England alone that month. A small but growing amount is also being exported from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The figure is 20% greater than the amount exported over the whole of 2011, when the export industry was still in its infancy.
