EU set to add more chemicals to REACH authorisation list

Another seven toxic substances may be added to the REACH chemicals regime authorisation list under proposals by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). Consultation on the list, which heralds a significant expansion of annex XIV to REACH, began on 2 March. The first substance listed is karanal, a name given to a mix of similar complex organic odorants. It provides a woody note to fine fragrances, shampoos and detergents. Its sole registrant is Dutch firm Givaudan Nederland BV.
