This is a big year for the government's 'green' ambitions -the UK is hosting the COP26 talks in Glasgow, as well as the G7, and the world is watching to see if Boris Johnson can make good on his promise to "make this country the cleanest, greenest on earth". A key department in this bold ambition, which now includes the green recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, will of course be DEFRA. Time will tell if it is sufficiently resourced, skilled and managed to deliver its policies, but a recent report on the department's environmental record shows it has some way to go.
