Barring any last-minute interventions from the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs select committee, Tony Juniper will be the next chair of Natural England. Juniper, on of the UK's foremost environmentalists, has his work cut out. Critics say the nature regulator has been gutted, detoothed and declawed and that it has presided over ongoing biodiversity decline. They also argue the body is a shadow of its former self in terms of size, resource and clout.
