The Teamsters union is America's biggest, except for those covering government workers, and its hardball tactics have always commanded, to say the least, respect. In the 1960s, under Jimmy Hoffa, it could threaten to halt the country with a strike at the drop of a hat. Hoffa once publicly derided Robert Kennedy, the then attorney-general who was waging a campaign against Teamster corruption, as a "spoiled brat".
