Nampak's first D&I canmaking line using aluminium will be commissioned in May as part of a R1.6 billion (US$178m) investment by the South African firm to increase capacity to meet rising demand for drinks packaging.The line will add capacity at Nampak's Springs plant of about 1 billion cans a year and is part of a previously announced conversion from tinplate at its other plants costing R600 million ($67m).Sales have been secured through long-term supply contracts with major customers, including a new five-year contract worth R5.6bn ($631m) to supply Coca-Cola Canners of South Africa.
