The RIBA has voted to consider removing the word 'architect' from its title. On Tuesday (30 June), the institute's council was asked if it wished to progress the possibility of replacing 'architects'with the broader term 'architecture'.rnThe move, which could change the RIBA's name for the first time since it was founded 175 years ago, was almost universally condemned by architects contacted by the AJ. Christian Wewer of Manchester-based AEW said: 'Talk about fiddling while Rome is burning. To spend time discussing this while the profession faces one of the harshest recessions ever isrnostrich-like. I can't see the logic, unless they are looking for a broader platform to promote themselves, rather than taking care of their members.'
