Furzey Hall Farm is created from a three-storey Victorian Cotswold stone farm cottage and an adjacent barn. Imaginative clients collaborated with architect friends on a design that links the two old buildings with an elegant new single-storey timber and glass building. The 'L'-shaped link encloses two sides of the garden and houses a generous open-plan kitchen, dining areas and a new guest suite.Simple materials have been used confidently throughout; the original elm trusses are retained and stone walls left exposed at the barn's gable ends. The barn's original character is juxtaposed with bold modern interventions such as a folded steel staircase.
