The government s intention to raise tuition fees seems to be entirely misguided. Young people of modest means will be deterred from university education and their prospects diminished. Those who are better off will seriously consider European universities where courses are already taught in English, fees are lower, education better and less invaded by government ideology, with the strong possibility of their not returning to the UK.
