Two rural schemes with large cantilevers have been named among the finalists for this year's RIBA Manser Medal. The Balancing Barn, Suffolk by MVRDV with Mole Architects, and Featherstone Young Architects' Ty-Hedfan, in Brecon, Powys, have both been shortlisted for the prize, which is awarded to the best individual house or major extension in the UK. Duggan Morris Architects is also in the running to win the £10,000 award backed by HSBC Private Bank, after being shortlisted for remodelling the Brutalist home of architect Graham Stirk in north London.
