Practice

Eleven years ago, my wife and I upped sticks after three years in Brighton and moved to North Kent to take over a local architectural practice. Neither of us was from, or had lived in Kent. I had worked for more than eight years in other practices (including a three-year stint in Singapore during the '90s UK recession) and was commuting four hours a day to London. The Big Smoke had lost its allure: few offices could offer what I wanted from practice; my wife (also an architect) and I had a second child on the way; I wanted to work with and spend more time with her.
