London John McAslan + Partners has revealed the latest proposals for the contentious redevelopment of Smithfield market in London. The practice has been working with current owners Henderson Global Investors for two years on the retail and office-led plans for the general market, fish market and Red House buildings since and will officially present its designs to the public this week. An earlier, highly controversial proposal for the historic site drawn up by KPF, (bottom right) which would have seen many of the existing Victorian buildings flattened, was famously rejected in August 2008 by then communities secretary Hazel Blears following a four-year battle.
