Comparing this year's second quarter with the first, construction's 5.2 per cent decline was worse than that of any other sector. Services and production recorded falls of 0.8 per cent and 1.3 per cent respectively - according to the Office for National Statistics. ONS claimed the extra bank holiday for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in June may have skewed results while the unprecedented wet weather was also blamed.
