It's been a difficult year for BDP. Its UK workforce has been cut by 43 staff to 252 architects. Profits for the year ending in June 2011 were slashed by half and it had to close its Belfast, Winchester and Edinburgh offices. Trie Belfast office closure came as a particularly cruel blow, having been open since 1965 with over 100 staff at its mid-2000s' peak. During the last financial year, turnover fell by 17 per cent from £96.3 million to £79.8 million, the firm suffering from delays to its proposed £420 million redevelopment of the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, and its failure to land huge schemes at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Papworth Hospital.
