Over the past year, RMJM has faced a torrent of bad publicity about redundancies, its reported inability to pay staff on schedule, court actions, a probe into the practice's pension payments, and a number of departures. The most high-profile of these was Will Alsop's exit last year, taking with him several key projects to set up studio ALL Design, just 21 months after joining the company. Others to leave this year include Paul Stallan, Tony Kettle and Colin Bone. RMJM's international portfolio remains strong, however: recent wins include a masterplan for a new city outside Karachi in Pakistan, and planning permission for one of Europe's tallest skyscrapers in Istanbul, Turkey.
