BDP has won an international competition to design a new business district in Shanghai, China. The 350,000m~2 Hongqiao scheme, close to the city's main railway station and domestic airport, features shops, offices and new public spaces. Drawn up for developer Golden Kingdom, the project is 17km from Pudong, Shanghais existing business district, but will be very different in character with its low-rise blocks, none of which are above eight storeys high. The scheme is part of a larger 'flexible, mixed-use, mixed-density masterplan' designed to allow for large-scale future growth.
